AEMET and 112 issue orange heat alert for Sagunto on Thursday

Tomorrow, Thursday 23 July, between 12:00 and 19:59, Sagunto will be under an orange heat alert, with temperatures that could touch 39C. The warning was issued jointly by the 112 Comunitat Valenciana emergency service and AEMET, Spain's national weather agency. On the official warning scale, orange sits one step below red (extreme) and is reserved for 'important' risk episodes, in which vulnerable people and property in exposed areas may suffer serious harm. The city council is asking residents to take extra care during the central hours of the day and to pay particular attention to children under 5, people over 65, and anyone who is obese or ill, while also reminding everyone never to leave a person inside a closed car. The usual advice applies: wear light, pale-coloured clothing, use sun protection, drink water often, and avoid prolonged physical exercise. To help residents through these spells of extreme heat, the municipality already runs a network of more than 30 climate shelters (air-conditioned public spaces) spread across the town, designed so anyone can cool off when temperatures spike.
