Compromís calls for full air-conditioning plan for Sagunto's schools
The Compromís municipal group has asked for a joint plan between the town and regional government to fully maintain and air-condition Sagunto's schools, demanding that the Valencian Government cover its share of the investment.
The Compromís municipal group in Sagunto has filed a formal request for an inter-institutional plan to fully maintain and air-condition the town's schools. The Valencian party is asking Sagunto City Council and the Valencian Government (Generalitat Valenciana, the regional administration) to coordinate their responsibilities: the council handles day-to-day maintenance of schools, while the regional government is responsible for funding larger infrastructure works. Compromís wants both sides to work together to fix problems affecting several schools in the town.
The request comes in the middle of summer, when high temperatures in the Camp de Morvedre district once again highlight the lack of air conditioning in many public schools and secondary schools across the Valencian Community. Compromís argues that the regional government must meet its obligations toward Sagunto's schools, although the party has not yet specified the exact amount of investment it is demanding.
This same demand already appears on the agenda of Sagunto's ordinary August plenary session, scheduled for this Thursday 6 August, where Compromís will bring forward a similar proposal for debate and vote alongside other municipal matters.
This is not the first time the group has raised concerns about public education in Sagunto. In early 2025, Compromís criticised the budgets approved by the PP (People's Party) and Vox as, in its view, a serious cutback for the town's schools. The current request follows that same line of criticism and comes just before the new school year starts in September, when maintenance problems built up over the year typically become most visible.
A full air-conditioning plan would directly affect families with children in the town's public schools, who have spent several school years asking for improvements as summer heat becomes longer and more intense, often stretching into September and October. Compromís has not yet given a timetable or a specific budget figure for its proposal, though it has asked for the plan to be approved before the next school year begins.
