Canet d'en Berenguer, a town in the Camp de Morvedre district around Sagunto, hosts the III Meeting for Collective Energy on 28 January 2027. Projects can be submitted until 15 December 2026.

Town councils, companies, cooperatives, universities and social organisations have until 15 December 2026 to register a project or experience for the III Meeting for Collective and Community Energy. The event will take place on 28 January 2027 at the Auditori Municipal (municipal auditorium) of Canet d'en Berenguer, in the Sagunto area.

Three bodies are behind it: the cooperative Sapiens Energia, the Comunitat Energètica Racó de Mar (an energy community) and Canet town council. Their aim is to bring together municipal officials, companies, cooperatives and energy communities to discuss how to generate, share and pay for renewable electricity.

Anyone wishing to take part must send an application before the deadline. Selected projects can join the debate panels, give a short five-minute talk or present at a space set aside for exchanging experiences. An independent committee will assess the proposals and announce its decision on 12 January 2027, sixteen days before the meeting. The rules and instructions are on the event's official website, encuentroenergiacolectiva.es, where attendees can also register.

The novelty this year comes from national rules changed in March 2026. Since then, a solar or wind installation of up to 5 MW can share its output with consumers located less than 5 km away, as long as it meets the conditions for collective self-consumption. For a resident or a shop, this means electricity from a nearby solar plant could reach their meter directly, instead of all of it going to the electricity market. The meeting will look at how to put this model into practice and what producers and consumers stand to gain.

Financing will be another central block. Sapiens Energia will present a guide for energy communities setting out what banks require, what alternatives exist to public grants and how to include families that cannot afford an upfront payment. Its president, Juan Sacri, who also chairs the Comunitat Energètica Racó de Mar, argues that these communities cannot live on subsidies alone and that, for energy to be truly in citizens' hands, there must be funding that lets in those who cannot advance the money.

The programme adds three technical topics: the difficulty of connecting to a saturated power grid, shared energy storage and uses of artificial intelligence in the sector.

The event reaches its third edition with a track record in Canet. According to energias-renovables.com on 24 January 2025, the first meeting, organised by Sapiens Energia with the support of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Generalitat, drew more than 220 people. That outlet described Canet as a pioneering municipality nationwide in promoting energy communities, and Sacri as defining them as a new player in the energy system. The same outlet reported on 11 March 2026 that the second edition gathered around a hundred energy-sector specialists, with several panels on key issues for these communities.
