Minute of silence in Sagunto for gender violence: help lines 016 and 112
Councillors and residents observed a minute of silence on 2 November in front of municipal buildings for a 38-year-old woman allegedly murdered in Barcelona. The Equality Area asks people to call 016 or 112 at any suspicion of violence.
Anyone who suspects that a woman is suffering gender-based violence has a civic duty to call 016 or 112. The reminder comes from the Equality Area of Sagunto City Council, which timed it with a public act of condemnation held on Monday 2 November 2026.
At 12:00, members of the municipal corporation went out to the doors of the municipality's public buildings to observe a minute of silence. The reason was the alleged gender-based murder of a 38-year-old woman in Barcelona. They were joined by council staff, residents, and representatives of groups and associations. The call came from the Equality Area.
The official figures that accompany the call are these: 2025 ended with 47 women murdered, and so far in 2026 the number is 44, which is three fewer than last year's total with two months still to go. Since 2003, when records began, 1,385 gender-based murders have been counted. Among minors, 68 have been victims since 2013, and 2026 has seen three murders classed as vicarious violence (violence against a woman's children in order to hurt her).
The council has used this gesture before. According to elperiodic.com in April 2022, the Equality Area then called a minute of silence at midday at the doors of municipal buildings for the gender-based murders in Lloret and Barcelona, with the corporation, staff, groups and residents taking part.
Anyone who needs guidance in Sagunto can go to the Women's Support Service of the Equality Area, which sees people in person from Monday to Friday. It can be reached on 96 265 58 89, on WhatsApp at 607 248 363 (from 8:00 to 15:00) or by email at [email protected]. Booking an appointment is advised, although cases that require it are seen without one.
In a serious emergency, call 112, the Emergency Coordination Centre. A woman who has been assaulted and needs protection can phone the National Police (091 or 96 267 00 91), the Local Police (092 or 96 265 54 84) or the Guardia Civil (062).
For urgent help there is also the Centre Dona 24 Hores of the Valencian Government (a 24-hour women's support centre): 900 580 888, or 016. The call does not show on the phone bill, but it should be deleted from the handset's call log.
