Sagunto welcomes 23 new municipal police officers, filling nearly all posts
Sagunto's Municipal Police (Policía Local) presented 23 new officers at a formal ceremony in City Hall on Thursday, bringing the force to almost its full authorised strength of 126 officers.
Mayor Darío Moreno, Police Councillor María José Carrera and Chief Commissioner Rafael de Manuel presided over the ceremony, which formally welcomed officers recruited under the 2023 and 2025 Public Employment Offers — 16 through open competition and 7 through internal transfer. The new recruits fill the last vacant posts in a force whose authorised headcount stands at 126 officers according to the municipal job catalogue. Moreno said the formal event was designed to give the moment the institutional recognition it deserved for the city, and praised the force's reputation across the Valencian Community for technology use and emergency management. The new officers must still complete a mandatory qualification course at the IVASPE (Valencian Institute of Public Safety and Emergencies) before joining active duty. Municipal police forces in Spain are civilian armed bodies regulated by Organic Law 2/1986 on Security Forces and Corps (LOFCS), which defines their core duties: patrolling public spaces, managing urban traffic, assisting in emergencies and supporting judicial police functions. According to Sagunto City Council, the completion of this recruitment drive fills virtually the entire authorised establishment.
