Sagunto's coastal rescue service begins this Saturday with a reinforced team of 55 professionals — five more than last year — who will watch over the beaches until the last Sunday of September.

The Beaches Department of Sagunto City Council deploys tomorrow 55 lifeguards across nine watchtowers and three fixed stations at Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district), Almardà and Corinto. The team consists of a general coordinator, six station coordinators, six boat helmsmen and 36 lifeguards, with six additional staff joining in July and August.

Service hours run from 10:00 to 20:00 until 30 June; during the peak summer period — 1 July to 16 August — the schedule extends to 21:00. From 17 August the ten-hour shift returns until 27 September. The team has four rescue boats, five quad bikes and two ambulances with a doctor on board.

Councillor Roberto Rovira said the city provides one of the highest coverage levels in the Valencian Community in terms of both staffing and hours. The municipality's three beaches — Almardà, Corinto-Malvarrosa and Puerto de Sagunto — line the coast of the shoreline district, home to more than 40,000 of the municipality's 73,031 residents. The international Blue Flag programme requires certified lifeguards as a mandatory criterion for its beach quality award; in 2026 the Valencian Community led all Spanish regions with 164 designations. According to Sagunto City Council.
