Clara López Salazar fights Ireland's Christina Desmond for the European super-lightweight title in Sagunto on Saturday 24 October. Tickets start at 25 euros and Friday's weigh-in is free.

Anyone who wants to watch a boxer from Sagunto fight for a European title live has a date on Saturday 24 October 2026 at the Polideportivo Municipal (Internúcleos, the municipal sports hall). The Boxing Dreams XII event starts at 17:00 and doors open at 16:00. On top of the bill, Sagunto's own Clara López Salazar takes on Ireland's Christina Desmond for the European super-lightweight championship.

The programme brings together men's and women's Olympic-style bouts, plus classic amateur boxing. In that last category, Ibtisam Zehaf, also from Sagunto, faces Alba Sarabia from Alicante. Several international professional bouts follow, for men and for women, leading up to the main event between López and Desmond.

Tickets cost 25 euros for general admission, 30 euros for a ringside chair and 50 euros for the first and second rows. The VIP table, for six people with catering included, costs 400 euros, or about 67 euros per guest. The day before, on Friday 23 October, the professional weigh-in takes place at 19:00 at the Centro Cívico Antiguo Sanatorio in Puerto de Sagunto (the coastal district), with free entry for anyone who wants to watch.

The presentation of the championship brought together the councillor for Physical Activity, Health and Sports, Javier Timón; the director general for Equality and of the Women's Institute of the Valencian Government, Davinia Bono; Clara López herself; her coach and president of the Lord Boxing Club Puerto de Sagunto, Ramón Lord; and the event's promoter and manager, Antonio Juárez. Club boxers Ibtisam Zehaf, Mounir Ait Ahmed and Izan Vázquez also attended, along with coach Manuel Bronchal.

Timón stressed that sport has the virtue of bringing everyone together and that the event is the result of cooperation between administrations and clubs. He added that, since boxing has traditionally been seen as a very male-dominated discipline, it matters that the women's side is the one driving the sport in the city. He told Clara López that her commitment and fight show in every bout, predicted a great night and wished her a favourable result. He wished luck to the other local fighters and said their successes will be welcomed with joy.

Bono argued that equality and the presence of women must reach every field, sport included. She said she had already seen the boxer in other championships and hopes to hand her the champion's belt on Saturday.

Ramón Lord thanked the administrations and the promoter for the effort of bringing the event to Sagunto and recalled the club's first reception at the town hall, when it was described as a supersonic rocket taking off. Clara López, for her part, thanked everyone for their support, invited residents to come to the sports hall and back her, and said that everyone represents the town and, in her case, Spain.

Lord's club had already produced results in youth categories. According to valencianews.es on 27 December 2024, Ibtisam Zehaf became Spanish junior women's champion at 46 kg and Héctor Lara junior runner-up at 52 kg, both of Club LordBoxing Puerto de Sagunto, at the championships held in Cartagena. The same article names Ramón Lord O'Reilly as the club's president and coach. Zehaf, who won the national title then, now steps into the local ring against Sarabia.

According to the Sagunto City Council, with additional data from valencianews.es on the club's results in 2024.
