Sagunto began the third edition of En moviment on Monday 19 October, an exercise and health programme with Nordic walking and body awareness.

The third edition of En moviment got under way in Sagunto on Monday 19 October. It is run by the Department of Physical Activity, Health and Sports of the city council, which counts the programme among its health-promotion measures. The underlying idea is to use exercise as a tool: to improve people's wellbeing and independence and to prevent the problems that come with a sedentary lifestyle.

The programme works because two sectors coordinate, healthcare and the municipality. Its aim is to bring movement to people who can benefit from regular practice, with activities adapted to each person's characteristics and needs. The activities linked to it include Nordic walking and body awareness. The council also stresses that this coordination between health professionals and municipal services helps drive preventive action and improve the population's health, and it presents the initiative as a sign of Sagunto's commitment to active lifestyles.

The model described by Alicante City Council, which runs the same programme, helps explain the approach. There, En moviment rests on a collaboration agreement with the Valencian regional health department (Conselleria de Sanidad) and sets up a system for prescribing physical activity and exercise aimed at health. According to that description, primary care health professionals can refer inactive people and patients to municipal physical activity. Sagunto's announcement does not say how that referral works in the city.

The profile of participants is also known from the regional framework. Valencia Plaza reported in April 2024, covering the Generalitat's push for physical activity in municipalities, that En moviment targets inactive people, those with risk factors or chronic conditions, and people over 70. According to that outlet, the prescription lasts between six and nine months, and participants get facilities and professional support free of charge. These are the conditions of the regional programme, not confirmed details for the Sagunto edition.

Nordic walking is not new in the city either. In May 2020, elperiodic.com reported that the sports department had marked three Nordic walking routes in Sagunto, among them the Itinerario del Palancia al Mar, 10 km long, which starts at the beach in Puerto de Sagunto (the coastal district). All three routes are part of the Valencian network of Nordic walking tourist destinations. The council does not say whether En moviment uses those routes.

The municipal announcement does not give timetables, session locations or how to sign up. Anyone who wants to know whether they can take part will need to ask the Department of Physical Activity, Health and Sports.
