Atlético Saguntino draw 2-2 with Torrevieja after a penalty on the last play
Atlético Saguntino came from behind at Torrevieja and led 1-2 from the 57th minute, but the home side levelled from the penalty spot on the final play. The draw leaves them ninth on eight points.
Atlético Saguntino (the football club of Sagunto) returned from Torrevieja, a coastal city in Alicante province, with one point after a 2-2 draw at the Nelson Mandela ground. The side coached by Guillem Beltrán recovered from an early goal against, went ahead in the second half, and then watched the opponent equalise from the penalty spot when the match was almost over.
SC Torrevieja scored first. Ioel netted in the 8th minute and forced Saguntino to play from behind once again. The visitors responded before half-time, and the 1-1 left the match open for the second half.
After the break, Hernando made it 1-2 in the 57th minute. With that lead, Saguntino was within reach of a second straight win, following the 3-2 victory over Utiel in the previous round. Torrevieja, however, stayed in the game and kept looking for the equaliser until the end.
They found it on the last play. Jota won a penalty and took it himself to make the final score 2-2. The visitors, who spent a good part of the second half with the win in their hands, take one point instead of three.
In the table, after six matches, Atlético Saguntino is ninth with eight points, from two wins, two draws and two defeats. Torrevieja is eleventh with seven, so only one point now separates the two teams.
The point follows a season in which Saguntino came very close to everything. According to Golsmedia in June 2026, when it reported that Beltrán would stay for one more season, the team finished the 2025-26 league in Tercera Federación (Group VI) in second place with 66 points, just one behind champions Castellonense. It then lost to La Nucía in the promotion playoff for Segunda Federación, in a tie that, according to the same outlet, was decided by small details. Golsmedia described the coach's renewal as the continuation of a project that had brought back enthusiasm among the fans.
The current club traces its origin to the merger of Sagunto C. D. and Cova Club, which took place in 1922.
