Alternatura Sagunto 2026-27: eight hiking trips, from Pico del Remedio to the Pedraforca
Alternatura, the hiking programme run by Sagunto's sports department, offers eight outings from 17 October to 20 February: five in the Valencian Community, two in Teruel and one in Barcelona.
The autumn-winter season of Alternatura starts on Saturday 17 October with a climb to Pico del Remedio, in Utiel, and ends on 20 February 2027 with a trip to the Colós de la Safor, in Villalonga. In between, the programme run by the Physical Activity, Health and Sports department of Sagunto City Council adds six more outings, eight in total: five in the Valencian Community, two in Teruel and one in Barcelona.
After Utiel, Saturday 31 October is the turn of Pico del Buitre, in Torrijas (Teruel). The third date, 6 to 8 November, is the biggest: a full weekend in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, in Barcelona, including an ascent of the famous Pedraforca peak. It is the only multi-day trip in the calendar; the other seven fall on a Saturday.
On 21 November the group visits the Alcalá river canyon, in Alcalá de la Selva (Teruel), and on 12 December it goes to Los Cuchillos, in Hoces del Cabriel (Valencia). In 2027, 23 January brings Pico del Tis, in Villahermosa del Río (Castellón); 6 February the Chorradores de Otonel, in Cortes de Pallás (Valencia); and 20 February the Colós de la Safor, in Villalonga.
Alternatura is an outdoor activity programme of the municipal Physical Activity, Health and Sports department, mostly hiking. It has offered a steady schedule for more than a decade, and its stated aim is to introduce people to the mountains and culture of the Valencian Community, mainly. According to elperiodic.com in November 2021, it was created to promote mountain sports and make them easier for residents to join; that autumn it included the Congost de Mont-Rebei gorge, with walkways over cliffs more than 80 metres high.
Compared with last year, the programme is slightly larger. According to valencianews.es in October 2024, the 2024-25 autumn-winter season had seven outings, including La Conquista de Valencia route in Fuentes de Rubielos (Teruel) on 30 November and the climb of Aitana on 25 January. This season there is one more.
Alternatura has also run demanding mountain days. In May 2023, elperiodic.com reported that about twenty people from Sagunto linked three peaks of the Serrella range in a single day (Malla del Llop, Serrella and Pla de la Casa), with a total climb of more than 1,050 metres.
To join a one-day trip, sign up on the council's registration platform, aytosagunto.apuntate.online. For trips of more than one day, which in this programme means only the Cadí-Moixeró weekend, bookings go by email to [email protected]. The council's announcement does not give prices, number of places or departure times, so it is worth checking them before signing up.
