Atlético Saguntino beat Atzeneta 3-1 in Sagunto: Diego Martínez scores twice
Atlético Saguntino beat Atzeneta 3-1 with two goals from Diego Martínez, who played for the opponents last season. Guillem Beltrán's side now has 11 points in Tercera Federación.
For Atlético Saguntino, the 3-1 win over Atzeneta UE in matchday nine of Group VI of Tercera Federación (Spain's fifth tier) means a return to winning after losing the previous round to Athletic Club Torrellano, and 11 points from eight matches played. The game took place at the Nou Camp de Morvedre, and the name of the day was Diego Martínez, a centre-back who wore the opponents' shirt last season.
Martínez opened the scoring after twelve minutes. That goal gave Guillem Beltrán's side a narrow lead that held until half-time. In the 63rd minute the defender appeared again to make it 2-0, his second goal against his former club.
Atzeneta did not give up. In the 79th minute, Dani Triguero, who had come off the bench, pulled one back and scored for the second round in a row. At 2-1 the visitors were back in the game, but Antonio Guerra, also a substitute at the start, sealed the result with the 3-1 in stoppage time.
The Nou Camp de Morvedre is becoming the team's refuge. All three league wins so far have come at home: before this one, a 2-1 against Atlético Levante and a 3-2 against CD Utiel. The club, founded in 1922, has played at that ground since 1977, with room for 250 spectators. In its two previous matches Saguntino had picked up only one point, so this result ends that run.
Atzeneta arrived with its first win of the season in hand, a 2-1 against CD Roda, and aiming to chain two victories together for the first time in the championship. It stays on eight points from eight matches and without an away win: two draws and two defeats on the road. The club from the Vall d'Albaida (inland comarca) was founded in 1975, played in regional leagues until 2018, when it rose to Tercera División, and reached Segunda División B on 26 July 2020.
The result is also a measure of revenge: Saguntino's previous home match against Atzeneta ended 0-1 to the visitors on 25 January.
The starting point of this season explains the expectations around the team. According to Golsmedia on 10 June 2026, reporting Beltrán's renewal, Saguntino finished last season second with 66 points, one behind Castellonense, and lost its playoff tie to La Nucía. The coach had arrived at the Nou Camp de Morvedre the previous summer and stayed despite offers received. And on 4 September 2026, when Group VI opened, the same outlet noted that Saguntino finished second and Atlético Levante third, the very two sides who played the opening match.
The immediate calendar brings a pending game: on Wednesday 4 November, Saguntino plays its postponed match against CD Español de San Vicente, a chance to add to those 11 points. Atzeneta, for its part, will look to win again next round, when it hosts Atlético Levante.
