Falla La Palmera cultural week in Sagunto 2026: circus, Palmera d'Or awards, charity catwalk
The La Palmera falla in Sagunto holds its Cultural Week from 22 to 25 October, with a circus show, awards for two local groups, a charity fashion show and a communal day.
The first event is on Thursday 22 October at 8 pm. Hort d'Ais street will become an improvised big top for the company GorryDiversión, which will mix magic, comedy, acrobatics and classic circus acts. It opens the Cultural Week of the La Palmera falla (a neighbourhood Fallas festival commission), which runs for four days under the motto "Que comence l'espectacle!" and is open to falla members and residents.
The commission did not pick the circus by chance. Its organisers see a parallel with the Fallas, two festive traditions full of spectacle. The Fallas of València have also had international recognition since 2016, when UNESCO inscribed them on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, an argument the falla cites to explain the week's theme.
On Friday 23 October, also at 8 pm, the Palmera d'Or Awards 2026-2027 gala takes place. The commission unanimously decided to honour two groups from Sagunto's cultural life this year: the Societat Musical Lira Saguntina (music society) and the Grup de Danses de Morvedre (folk dance group), which is marking its 40th anniversary. Both will perform during the ceremony, which ends with a tasting of Valencian food.
The falla's president, Josep Ripollés, explained the choice. In his view, the two groups deserve the award for what they have contributed to the cultural legacy of the area and the city, and for keeping music and dance, two of the main local traditions, alive.
The Lira Saguntina had already been in the municipal agenda by another route. According to elperiodic.com in July 2024, Sagunto City Council signed new agreements then with the Lira Saguntina and the Unión Musical Porteña, worth 50,000 euros a year for each group and running until the end of 2027.
On Saturday 24 October, from 7.30 pm, the 8th Pasarela Solidaria (charity catwalk) takes place. The falla presents it as a showcase for Sagunto's local shops: dozens of falla members and residents will step out of their usual roles to model what the participating businesses offer. Now in its eighth edition, it is one of the best-attended events of the week.
The show will include performances and a few surprises. Club Gimnasia Sagunto and the young composer Vicente Ibáñez will take part, and the evening will continue with music.
Sunday 25 October closes the programme with a communal day for the falla, with the traditional stews (ollas) and a tardeo (afternoon party). That makes four days combining celebration, recognition of cultural groups and support for small businesses.
