Sixteen people from Sagunto's Social Inclusion Pathways programme are taking a 62-hour food sector course funded by ESF+ Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027, ending on 28 October.

The Social Services Department of Sagunto City Council has backed a training course on the food sector, funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+, known in Spanish as FSE+) Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027. Sixteen people selected through the municipal Social Inclusion Pathways programme are taking part, to improve their professional skills and their chances of finding work. The course ends on 28 October, after 62 hours of theory and practice.

Students learn to prepare, handle and store meat products, and to make, preserve and store bakery products. They are also trained in hygiene, food safety, contamination prevention and the correct storage of different types of food. The course also works on personal and social skills: independence, responsibility, teamwork and employability.

It is not an open-enrolment course. According to the programme leaflet, the pathways are aimed at holders and beneficiaries of the Valencian Inclusion Income, the Minimum Vital Income or other benefits of the Valencian public social services system, and participation requires prior referral from the basic primary-care social services team. The Valencian Inclusion Income (RVI) is, according to the Generalitat's Social Services, a financial and professional benefit for people at risk of exclusion in the Valencian Community.

The programme sits within ESF+ Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027 and develops the professional side of the RVI. It includes job-skills workshops, which train people in work capabilities and basic employment skills, alongside social inclusion, motivational and technology-skills workshops. The food course is one of those job-skills actions.

It is the second training course of the programme to start within days. As aytosagunto.es reported on 28 September 2026, nine days earlier another one began, on cleaning open spaces and industrial facilities, with fifteen people and 240 hours of theory and practice. It is also funded by ESF+ Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027 and linked to a Level 1 Certificate of Professional Competence.

Among the programme's goals is promoting active inclusion, with equal opportunities, no discrimination and better employability for the most disadvantaged groups. As elperiodic.com reported, two other workshops of the same programme, Arteterapia (art therapy, 160 hours, 40 sessions) and Lo Veo Me Ven (150 hours, 43 sessions), ended with a collective photography exhibition and were also co-funded by ESF+. As background, elperiodic.com reported in October 2019 that the predecessor programme, T'Acompanyem, was starting its third consecutive year with 133,928.56 euros, co-funded by the ESF 2014-2020.
