Sagunto honours two Club Morvedre gymnasts shining at national level
Claudia Guzmán and Xavi Requena won one gold, three silvers and a bronze at the Spanish Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Guadalajara.
The plenary hall at Sagunto City Council filled with applause for Claudia Guzmán and Xavi Requena, two gymnasts from the Club de Gimnasia Rítmica Morvedre (rhythmic gymnastics club) who came back from Guadalajara with a haul of medals. Between 13 and 17 June, Guzmán took gold in hoop in the individual masters category, plus silvers in ball and in the overall standings; she also represented the Valencian Community at the Championship of Autonomous Regions, where the regional team won the masters category. Requena, for his part, made the podium with bronze in ribbon and finished fifth in rope at the Spanish Men's Championship, junior category. Mayor Darío Moreno, sports councillor Javier Timón and club president Luis Marín led the tribute, with Moreno praising both the sporting level and the personal character of the two young athletes, calling them ambassadors for the city. Timón noted this was not the first time they had been honoured, and Marín stressed that both embody the club's values. With this haul, the Club de Gimnasia Rítmica Morvedre strengthens its position among the leading clubs of the discipline in the Valencian Community. According to El Periódico de Aquí.
