Sagunto council honours Club de Lluita Camp de Morvedre for standout season
Sagunto City Council received athletes, families and coaches from the Club de Lluita Camp de Morvedre (wrestling club) on Monday, after a 2026 season with multiple Spanish national titles in sambo, Olympic wrestling, beach wrestling and MMA.
Mayor Darío Moreno and sports councillor Javier Timón welcomed the club's athletes, families, coaching staff and board at the town hall, marking 75 years since the club's founding. The club has become a national reference after winning Spanish championships across several disciplines: Gor Zograbian, gold in senior sambo and combat sambo; Pau Gimeno, champion in U20, university and senior women's wrestling; Alan Ferrera, U20 Olympic freestyle wrestling champion; Micaela Aránguiz, U13 champion; and Iván Tello, Aitor Tello and Iván Vázquez, winners of the youth MMA Spanish Cup. Sambo, the discipline Zograbian excelled in, is a self-defence system that originated in the former Soviet Union; beach wrestling, another of the club's specialities, was codified by the international federation United World Wrestling (UWW) so it can be practised almost anywhere without special equipment. The club also added several individual silver and bronze medals and a runner-up finish in the women's U17 team event. Moreno called the club "an example for other sports" after 75 years, while Timón praised its steady work with young athletes.
