The Huracán Puerto Sagunto triathlon school is organising the I Triatlón Pantalán this Sunday 19 July, from 8:30am — a regional relay championship for around 104 school-age athletes.

The event, organised by the Huracán Puerto Sagunto triathlon school together with the Valencian Community Triathlon Federation and the city council, will bring together 26 teams — about 104 triathletes — in children's, cadet, youth and inclusive categories, the last one open to teams with at least one para-triathlete. Each team combines the times of two female and two male athletes over a 300-metre open-water swim, a 5-kilometre bike leg and a 1-kilometre run along the Pantalán promenade. The cycling route passes by the Alto Horno (blast furnace), the old steelworks that closed and was dismantled in 1984, of which only Blast Furnace No. 2 and two industrial buildings remain standing. For safety, traffic will be cut from 7:30am on Travesía Mediterráneo, Avenida Altos Hornos and Avenida Sindicalista Juan Torres Casado, with parking banned from 6:00am. Mayor Darío Moreno and Sports Councillor Javier Timón presented the event as a grassroots, inclusive competition, the result of joint work between the council, clubs and federations. According to aytosagunto.es, with additional background from Wikipedia on the Alto Horno.
