Sagunto honours thirteen centenarians at annual Cultural Week
Sagunto City Council presented commemorative plaques to thirteen residents turning one hundred in 2026, closing the 21st Cultural Week for Older Adults.
Tuesday's ceremony in Sagunto marked an unprecedented milestone: more than twenty residents born in 1926 are turning one hundred this year — a record figure for the municipality, according to Sagunto City Council. Thirteen of them gathered at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre to receive commemorative plaques from Mayor Darío Moreno and Social Services Councillor Nuria Carbó. Women make up the majority: ten of the thirteen honourees are female and three are male, among them María García Muñoz, Consuelo Sanchís Climent, Benjamín Angulo Cardiel and Felipe Martí Cortell. The event concluded the 21st Cultural Week for Older Adults, organised by the Municipal Department for Social Services. Carbó described the occasion as one of the most emotionally resonant moments in the city's calendar for older residents. Several centenarians were unable to attend in person due to personal circumstances, though the recognition was extended to them nonetheless. According to Sagunto City Council.
