Sagunto's mayor says the centenary tribute is his favourite act in office
Mayor Darío Moreno Lerga wrote on his personal Facebook page that the annual tribute to Sagunto's centenarian residents is his favourite moment as mayor, in a record year with 13 honourees.
In a personal post on Facebook, Sagunto's mayor Darío Moreno Lerga publicly declared that the annual ceremony honouring the municipality's centenarian residents is the most meaningful act of his time in office. This year the event reached an unprecedented milestone: 13 residents born in 1926 received official recognition for turning one hundred in 2026.
The mayor's personal statement puts a human face on the institutional commitment behind the event. Darío Moreno Lerga (born in Alcoy, 1988) has served as mayor of Sagunto since 15 June 2019, representing the PSPV-PSOE (Valencian Socialist Party). He holds degrees in Law and Business Administration from the Universitat de València and a Master's in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York. In the May 2023 local elections, his party won 12 council seats — the best result ever achieved by a single party in Sagunto's history.
The ceremony took place at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre, as part of the 21st Cultural Week for Older Adults. According to the mayor's personal Facebook profile.
