Sagunto celebrates 20 years of twin-city partnership with Millau
A Sagunto city council delegation attended commemorative events in Millau, France, this weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the two cities' twinning agreement.
Councillor for Twinning Patricia Sánchez and Councillor for Youth and Childhood Roberto Rovira represented Sagunto at the celebrations organised by the Millau-Sagunto twinning committee. The programme included a craft market, musical and cultural performances, flamenco shows and a communal paella in the Place des Consuls.
The twinning agreement was signed on 18 March 2006 to promote cultural, social and economic cooperation between the two municipalities. Over two decades the partnership has produced student exchanges, gastronomic meetings and institutional visits covering areas such as tourism and education.
Millau is a town in the Aveyron department, Occitania region of southern France, with 22,044 inhabitants; alongside Sagunto it also holds twinning agreements with Bad Salzuflen, Bridlington and Mealhada. The town is internationally known for the Millau Viaduct — opened in 2004 and recognised as the world's tallest cable-stayed road bridge, with pylons reaching 343 metres above the river Tarn.
According to elperiodic.com, both municipalities reaffirm their commitment to building shared projects in the years ahead.
