Sagunto opens new multimodal transport hub at the Renfe station funded by Next Generation EU
Sagunto City Council has completed a new multimodal transport interchange next to the Renfe station on Avinguda País Valencià, bringing buses, trains and cycle lanes together in a single hub funded by Next Generation EU.
A €115,230 investment (VAT included) has reshaped the area around Sagunto's Renfe station to promote sustainable mobility. The scheme brings together an enlarged bus stop, new bicycle parking, improved pedestrian paths and a larger weatherproof shelter, replacing the old facilities in a single coordinated space.
The new shelter structure was installed by the Autoritat de Transport Metropolità de València (ATMV), the regional body that coordinates public transport for 59 Valencian municipalities serving more than 1.9 million users. Funding comes from Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan under the Next Generation EU framework — the EU's €750 billion post-pandemic recovery fund, which channels 37% of its budget towards climate measures.
Mobility Councillor Javier Raro welcomed the improvement as a benefit for residents commuting through the hub. The temporary bus stop will be permanently removed in the coming days, according to aytosagunto.es.
