Sagunto hosts multi-sector forum on solutions to workplace absenteeism
The Casa de la Cultura Capellà Pallarés in Sagunto hosted a forum on 27 May, organised by Avanta Prevención (occupational health firm), to assess the impact of absenteeism and temporary disability on businesses in Camp de Morvedre.
Business owners, healthcare professionals, union representatives and local officials gathered to explore practical responses to the growing burden of sick leave on employers. Alberto Pérez, Avanta Prevención's regional director for Valencia Norte and Castellón, presented the firm's 360º integrated model for improving workforce wellbeing and business competitiveness.
Juan Miguel Mesa of Umivale Activa outlined the national picture: in 2024, Spain's temporary-disability rate reached 53.3 cases per 1,000 workers — a historic high — with musculoskeletal disorders and mental health problems as the leading causes. Umivale Activa is a mutua colaboradora (employers' mutual association that manages sick-leave under Spain's Social Security system, regulated by Law 35/2014).
A round table moderated by Juan Sánchez Gil, and including ASECAM president Cristina Plumed, concluded with a call for dialogue and stronger prevention measures. The session was closed by Sagunto's Labour Prevention Councillor Francisco Javier Timón. Source: asecam.com.
