Iniciativa Porteña reports holes of more than 15 centimetres on Avenida Camp de Morvedre, between the Begoña school and the post office. The party asks Sagunto council for an urgent repair and a review of the whole road surface.

Anyone driving, riding a motorbike, cycling or using a scooter along Avenida Camp de Morvedre in Puerto de Sagunto (the coastal district) may come across holes of more than 15 centimetres. The warning comes from Iniciativa Porteña (IP), a local party of the Puerto, which has made public a new complaint about the state of the asphalt.

The stretch in question runs from the Begoña school to the post office (Correos), a route used every day on one of the main arteries of the district. According to IP, the damaged surface puts at risk the people who use that carriageway.

Its president, Mario Cereceda, demands that Sagunto council step in urgently to prevent accidents. He insists these are not cracks or a cosmetic matter: in his view, the holes can damage vehicles and are a danger for motorcyclists, cyclists and scooter users. He calls the situation "difficult to justify" on an avenue of this importance.

IP does not stop at asking for the potholes to be filled. It wants municipal services to examine the general condition of the road surface and decide which works are needed, because it believes one-off repairs are not enough.

The party points to traffic as a possible source of the wear, in particular the constant passage of electric buses throughout the day. Cereceda argues that these are heavy vehicles that put great strain on the pavement. The party itself admits that it offers no technical study of the specific causes of the damage, so the link between the buses and the deterioration is, for now, its own hypothesis.

The complaint ties in with a long-standing demand of IP: that the Cercanías commuter train (the regional rail service) reach Puerto de Sagunto. In its reasoning, without a rail link the district relies more on the road, with consequences for mobility and for the upkeep of infrastructure. Cereceda asks for public transport and street maintenance to be tackled together, and rejects adding more buses and more traffic without considering what that means for the roads.

The IP leader also sees an unfair imbalance between Sagunto and the Puerto in maintenance. He gives the historic centre of Sagunto as an example, where much of the street network is cobbled, compared with main avenues in the Puerto whose asphalt he describes as completely wrecked. He makes clear he does not question the improvements made in the historic core: what he demands is equivalent attention for the Puerto, and he reminds readers that its residents pay taxes and have a right to use streets in decent condition.

The published report includes no response from the municipal government, no repair timetable and no official data on the state of the surface on this stretch. Until the council speaks, it is unknown whether there will be a one-off patching job or work on the whole pavement, which is what IP is asking for. According to El Periódico de Aquí.
