Sagunto's first Carxata Awards 2026, by Compromís: eight winners on 30 October
Compromís per Sagunt will hand out the first Carxata Awards to eight winners on 30 October at 18:00 in the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre. Residents are invited.
Anyone who wants to attend the first Carxata Awards gala in Sagunto has a date on Friday 30 October 2026, at 18:00, at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre. Compromís per Sagunt, the party launching these awards, has invited the public to take part. The event is part of the Nit Estellés (Estellés Night), the annual evening devoted to the work of the poet Vicent Andrés Estellés and to Valencian literature.
According to Compromís local spokesperson Albert Oliver, the awards exist to recognise the commitment to society shown by organisations and people from Sagunto and the Valencian Country. The initiative comes from the party itself, which places it among the events it has organised this year around 9 d'Octubre (Valencian Community Day) and Valencian identity, such as a tribute to King James I and a climb with the Royal Senyera flag to the chapel of Sant Cristòfol.
The list of winners mixes names with regional reach and very local ones. Among the first is À Punt (Valencian public broadcaster) weather presenter Victòria Rosselló, honoured for her reporting during the DANA (severe flooding event) of 29 October 2024. Morvedre Acull receives an award for welcoming and integrating migrants, and the Federació Junta Fallera de Sagunt for promoting and using Valencian. The fourth award in this group goes to Escola Valenciana, for defending public, inclusive education in the language of the region.
At city level, Compromís will honour the career of Manuel Civera, linked to Sagunto's social life and to the Valencian-language movement. It will do the same for Rosa Marín and Guadalupe Torres, managers of Caixa Popular branches in Sagunto. The party stresses that Torres was the first woman to run a bank branch in the city.
The list closes with Compromís Potries, for its work in the government of this municipality in the Safor area, which shared with Sagunto the title of Valencian Cultural Capital in 2018-2019. That makes eight winners in all: four with a general scope, three from Sagunto and the municipal government of Potries.
There is a reason for choosing the Nit Estellés as the setting. Estellés was born in Burjassot on 4 September 1924 and died in Valencia on 27 March 1993. He received the Premio de Honor de las Letras Catalanas in 1978 and the Porrot d'Honor de les Lletres Valencianes in 1992. Oliver describes the night as a very important event for the group, a reunion with the written word in verse.
The programme is organised in collaboration with Espai Morvedre Cultural. The local group Negronera will perform, a folk and traditional Valencian music project led by Cristina López, with musicians such as Xema Caballer and Ximo Margaix. As is usual at the Nit Estellés, the audience will be able to read poems during the evening.
Compromís presents the Carxata Awards as a new date for social and cultural recognition in Sagunto's calendar. For now, the only confirmed date is that of this first edition: 30 October, at 18:00.
