Sagunto mayor Darío Moreno met on Wednesday with management and four employees of the Monte Arse care home to review how the centre operates, almost two months after the CCOO union raised the alarm over assaults suffered by staff. DomusVi, the French-founded company that runs the centre and is, with 158 care homes across Spain, the country's largest operator in the sector, briefed the mayor on how staff are organised and what protocols are followed daily across its three units: mental health, behavioural disorders, and care for the elderly.
The meeting stems from an alert that the CCOO Sanidad union (healthcare workers' union) issued on 2 June, when it filed a complaint over sexual, physical and verbal assaults with the local police, the Labour Inspectorate, the regional Social Services department (Conselleria), and IVASS (regional social-services oversight body), while calling for more staff and stronger protection measures. Monte Arse now says it remains willing to keep working with the council, and stressed that its quality ratings have stayed above average for comparable centres for years.
