Sagunto to open firebreak area in Codoval to prevent wildfires
Sagunto City Council will clear a firebreak strip around the Codoval residential area, funded with almost €20,000 from the Valencian regional government, to reduce forest fire risk.
The council's Environment Department will open a perimeter firebreak strip in the wildland-urban interface zone of Codoval, a scattered residential area within Sagunto's municipal boundary classed as very high fire risk under the Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan (PLPIF). The work, funded with a €19,703 grant from the Valencian regional government through the Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery department, will include forestry treatment across about 4.2 hectares around the edge of the residential area.
Before starting the work, the council will hire a technical assistance service to draft project reports, oversee the construction work and coordinate health and safety, plus a company to carry out the forestry treatment itself. Clearing this kind of firebreak strip helps slow the spread of fire and makes it easier for firefighting crews to respond if a fire breaks out.
