Councillor José Tomás Serrano Fenollosa argues that both the city council and the public company SAG had known for months that the staff strike would coincide with the days of highest waste generation, and believes the minimum service levels the company itself set for those dates fell far short of the flood of rubbish produced during the festival. The councillor stresses that his criticism does not target the labour talks, but the lack of foresight shown by the municipal government and SAG's management in a scenario he says was entirely predictable. Serrano Fenollosa also criticised the sight of several governing-team councillors sweeping public streets themselves, calling it pure posturing that does not replace the duty to properly plan the service. The party is now demanding that the mayor, the councillor responsible for the area and SAG's management explain why no specific plan was designed for the festival dates, at a time when political tension over the cleaning dispute kept rising in the municipality.
