The Environment Department will open a perimeter strip around the housing estate, classified as very high risk, funded by a Generalitat grant.

The Codoval housing estate, classified as being at very high risk of forest fire, is about to get a new line of defence against flames. Sagunto City Council, through its Environment Department, has secured a grant of around €20,000 from the regional environment, infrastructure and territory department (Conselleria de Medio Ambiente) to open a perimeter firebreak exactly where homes meet the woodland. The project, part of the Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan, will cover around 4.2 hectares around the residential area, aiming to slow any advancing fire and give firefighters more room to work if a blaze does break out. Before the machinery moves in, the council must first hire a technical assistance team to draft the project documents, oversee the works and manage health and safety, and only then will it put the actual forestry treatment work out to tender. The municipal department insists that firebreak strips like this one, along with other cleared vegetation zones, are decisive in cutting the risk where houses border forest, noting that similar projects are already under way elsewhere in the municipality. According to El Periódico de Aquí.
