Sagunto mayor meets new rector of the University of Valencia
Darío Moreno and Juan Luis Gandía discussed new ways for the city council and the university to work together after a recent change of leadership.
Darío Moreno and Juan Luis Gandía have now met. Sagunto's mayor and the new rector of the Universitat de València (UV) held their first meeting at the rector's office, a formal encounter meant to be the start of a longer relationship following the recent change of leadership at an institution dating back to 1499, when it was founded under the name Estudi General, and which today ranks among the oldest universities in Spain still operating. The two were not complete strangers to each other's world: until his appointment, Gandía served as UV's vice-rector for economy and infrastructure, background that, according to the council, makes it easier to discuss joint projects. Also attending were Toni Iborra, Sagunto's councillor for science, innovation and university affairs, and Daniel Serisola, UV's new general manager. The meeting put possible joint work on the table, covering innovation and other projects of interest to the municipality, a first step both institutions hope to turn into closer cooperation in the coming months.
