Sagunto choreographer Angela Verdugo marks 20 years of La Siamesa at Sagunt a Escena
Sagunto-born dancer and choreographer Angela Verdugo celebrates 20 years of her company La Siamesa on 6 August, part of the 43rd Sagunt a Escena festival (1-23 August).
Angela Verdugo, a Sagunto-born dancer and choreographer, has led the company La Siamesa since 2006; her 20 years in the role are marked on 6 August at Plaza dels Tarongers with "Bailarina a la carta", where the audience itself decides, song by song, what she dances. It is the most locally rooted moment of the 43rd edition of Sagunt a Escena, which runs 19 shows from 1 to 23 August across streets and public spaces in the city -not only at the Roman Theatre- and gives a leading role to five female-led companies. The festival opens its dance strand on day 2, when Sara Cano premieres "Anudar" ("Knot") at Paseo de la Alameda, reworking the traditional Valencian ribbon dance Dansa de les Vetes. The closing show on the 23rd comes from Alcoy-born choreographer Sol Pico with "Carrer 024", marking three decades since she founded her company in Barcelona, work recognised in 2016 with Spain's National Dance Award. The event is organised by the regional Conselleria (department) of Education, Culture and Universities through the IVC (Valencian culture institute), together with the Valencia Provincial Council and Sagunto City Council.
