Prosecutors seek prison term over assault on neighbour in Puerto de Sagunto
A man goes on trial this Tuesday at the Provincial Court of Valencia, accused of beating and threatening a neighbour in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) who had complained about fireworks in a park, back in February 2024.
Prosecutors are seeking two years and nine months in prison for a man who goes on trial this Tuesday at the Provincial Court of Valencia (Audiencia Provincial). He faces two charges — assault and threats — stemming from a dispute between neighbours in Puerto de Sagunto that started over fireworks.
It began on 12 February 2024, when the complainant called the local police after telling off a group of young people who were setting off very loud fireworks and damaging the swings in a local playground. According to the prosecution, the man did not take kindly to the call to police and warned that, once they left, he would come after him with a knife and a rock.
The threat did not stop there. About sixty minutes later, the two crossed paths again in the street and, still according to prosecutors, the man — surrounded by several minors — beat the victim until he fell to the ground, then kept hitting him. Recovering from the injuries took the victim more than 200 days. It will now be up to the judges, after hearing both sides, to determine the criminal responsibility involved.
