Sagunto residents call for more patrols at Almardà nudist beach
Neighbourhood group Almardà Viva reports incidents of public sexual behaviour and exhibitionism at the nudist area and is calling for more police presence and clearer boundaries.
The residents' association says it has received numerous complaints in recent weeks from people, especially women and families, who say they feel uncomfortable or unsafe; at least one resident has already filed a police report. Almardà Viva stresses it is not opposed to nudism itself, which it calls a legitimate practice in the area set aside for it, but to the disruptive behaviour it is reporting, which it says undermines coexistence on the beach. The beach where the nudist area sits, nearly two kilometres long, lies on the northern edge of the municipality, distinct from the better-known Malvarrosa beach in Valencia city, and is notable for a dune system of high ecological value at its western end. The association is asking for better signage, fenced barriers linked with rope and information signs, to clearly mark the nudist zone's boundaries, saying recently installed markers are not enough. It is also requesting stronger patrols from the Local Police and Civil Guard to enforce the rules. The group argues that people causing the unease should be the ones removed from the space, not families giving up on the coastline. The request follows other northern-beach neighbourhood groups recently asking for better beach facilities.
