Joan Calabuig, the Spanish government's commissioner for the Mediterranean Corridor, met with Asecam, mayor Darío Moreno and the Valencia Port Authority to review progress on rail works linking Sagunto with the European network.

At the meeting, held at Espais Econòmics Empresarials, officials reviewed the Mediterranean Corridor project: since 2018 it has drawn more than €6.2 billion in executed investment and has 800 km of track under construction. Calabuig said 2026 will bring visible milestones: a new rail link will connect Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) with the Parc Sagunt industrial estate and the corridor, while the Fuente de San Luis terminal moves ahead in Valencia. The meeting also covered the Sagunto-Teruel-Zaragoza rail section, which has received over €437 million, though full electrification will come later.

Local businesses raised concerns about the rail closure between Castellón and Tarragona planned for summer 2027, needed to switch the line to the international gauge (1,435 mm) instead of the Iberian gauge (1,668 mm) Spain adopted in 1855. Until the Teruel line is electrified, diesel trains will struggle to move heavy freight on the alternative route. Asecam's Cristina Plumed called for more investment to keep the corridor competitive ahead of the arrival of PowerCo and the future Parc Sagunt II terminal. Sagunto mayor Darío Moreno said the rail upgrades are key to keep attracting investment. According to El Periódico de Aquí, with background from Wikipedia's "Iberian gauge" article.
