Quartell, a town in Camp de Morvedre near Sagunto, is holding a week of sport and charity events ahead of its main summer festival.

Quartell, a small town in Camp de Morvedre near Sagunto, is heading into its final week before its main summer festival, mixing sport, charity and tradition under the town's Mou Quartell program. On Monday, the 27th hand-pelota tournament kicks off, coordinated by Javier Ferri, with a special children's edition and matches featuring local players such as Josep Cerezo, known as Vaqueret. The next day, the Morvedre Artistic Swimming Club will hold a public exhibition at the municipal pool. Charity takes centre stage with the Mou-te contra el cáncer walk, linking Quartell with the nearby El Quadro area, gathering around a hundred people and a shared dinner to raise funds for cancer research. On Friday comes the traditional lantern parade, using lanterns made from Algerian melons, from Molí Nou to the main square, with music from the Escola de Dolçainers de Meliana; Mayor Pepe Sebastián calls it the symbolic act opening the festival. The week closes with the 44th Volta a Peu race, a veteran event now part of a new 5K circuit shared by five towns in Les Valls. Councillor for Sports Ferran Alabadí says around 150 people join municipal sports activities this summer. According to El Periódico de Aquí.
