Benavites Fira d'Octubre 2026, Camp de Morvedre: market, workshops and tourist train on 18 October
Benavites, in the Camp de Morvedre district around Sagunto, holds its Fira d'Octubre on Sunday 18 October, with free entry and a tourist train. There will be a local market, workshops and music from 11 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Anyone who visits Benavites on Sunday 18 October can walk through a market of local produce, join a workshop and ride a tourist train without leaving the Camp de Morvedre district. The Fira d'Octubre (October fair), under the motto «On la tradició cobra vida», opens in two sessions, from 11 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm, and entry is free.
The fair is organised by the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) and Benavites Town Council. It brings together producers, craftspeople, shopkeepers and local associations, who use the day to show what they do the rest of the year. The stated aim is to give local produce, small businesses and traditional trades a place to sell and be seen.
The stalls are spread over three points in the centre: Plaça de l'Ajuntament, Plaça del Bisbe Vila and carrer Dr. Josep Berenguer. There, visitors can talk directly to the people who make what they buy.
The morning starts at 11 am in Plaça de l'Ajuntament with a performance of tabalet and dolçaina (traditional Valencian drum and reed pipe), followed by an introduction of the producers and associations taking part. From 11.30 am to 1.30 pm the same square hosts a healthy cooking workshop. In that slot there are also craft, ceramics and painting workshops, which reopen in the afternoon from 4.30 pm to 7 pm.
Those who prefer the countryside have three gardening and horticulture workshops, where people learn to plant winter species and grasses and to look after the plants typical of these weeks of the year. The topic suits the land: according to Wikipedia, all crops in Benavites are irrigated, the farmland behind the fair's local produce.
The trenet (little tourist train) is the most visible attraction for families. It runs in the morning and in the afternoon and leaves from Plaça del Bisbe Vila. Its route passes the old wash house, the church of Benavites and the church of Benicalaf. The parish church of Benavites is dedicated to Our Lady of the Angels, so the ride also works as a first heritage lesson for the youngest visitors.
It is worth not mixing this event up with the main town festival. The patron saint festivities of Benavites begin on the last Saturday of June, so the Fira d'Octubre is a different gathering, centred on commerce and trades. The town has a long history behind it: after the Christian conquest, King James I donated it to Bernat Matoses.
After the midday break, the programme resumes at 4 pm, again with tabalet and dolçaina. Between 5 pm and 6 pm comes the batucada workshop, a group drumming activity open to any visitor. The fair closes at 8 pm, and the tourist train runs during both sessions.
