Sagunto processes 1,349 files in migrant regularisation drive
Sagunto Town Hall processed 1,349 files for migrants before the deadline, 30 June, for the special regularisation process launched by Spain's central government.
Final approval still rests with Spain's Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, which now has three months to review each case, but Sagunto's town hall had to issue much of the required paperwork: certificates of registration (padrón) proving prior residence and, in some cases, vulnerability reports from Social Services. Signing up for that register is, in fact, the step that gives any resident official standing in the town, whatever their immigration situation. The surge in applications forced the council to add staff to Social Services and to the Citizen Information Office (SAIC), which held several information sessions in Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto attended by over 450 people. Councillor Nuria Carbó praised the effort of municipal staff, while SAIC head María José Carrera said enquiries rose by 10% compared with a normal period. For hundreds of local families, this paperwork ends months of administrative uncertainty. According to El Periódico de Aquí.
