Sagunto raises heat-wave alert to orange level for Tuesday and Wednesday

The 112 Comunitat Valenciana emergency service and AEMET have issued an orange heat-wave alert for Sagunto on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 July, from 12:00 to 19:59, with highs that could reach 41°C.

An orange-level AEMET warning means significant risk: vulnerable people and property in exposed areas could suffer serious harm, so residents are urged to take precautions and follow official updates. Sagunto City Council is asking for special care with children under 5, adults over 65, people who are obese or ill, and anyone doing physical activity outdoors. Never leave anyone inside a closed vehicle, keep an eye on how much water children and elderly people are drinking, wear light, pale-coloured clothing, eat water-rich foods, and avoid exercise during the hottest hours. To help residents cope, the town has this summer expanded its network of climate shelters to 31 sites, two more than in 2025: 24 air-conditioned indoor spaces plus 7 shaded parks with water, spread across Sagunto, Puerto de Sagunto and Almardà. The mayor said last year's positive response led to the expansion. Source: Sagunto City Council.
