Sagunto processes 1,349 case files in migrant regularisation process
More than 1,300 residents of Sagunto have applied under the special migrant regularisation process, whose application window closed on 30 June.
More than 1,300 residents registered in Sagunto have taken a step toward regularising their legal status: that is what the 1,349 case files handled by Social Services and the municipal citizen-assistance office (SAIC) show, before the application window for the special migrant regularisation process closed on 30 June. The final decision rests with Spain's Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, which now has three months to resolve the cases. The City Council's role was limited to issuing supporting paperwork, mainly the padron certificate (proof of registered residence), which shows how long each applicant has lived locally, plus a vulnerability report in some cases. That certificate matters because the padron -- the residents register coordinated nationwide by Spain's statistics institute (INE) -- includes each foreign resident's ID number, making it the key proof of prior residence. Handling this workload meant reinforcing staff: SAIC inquiries rose 10% above usual, and information sessions held in Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) drew more than 450 residents with questions. Councillors Nuria Carbo, who leads Social Services, and Maria Jose Carrera, in charge of SAIC, publicly thanked their teams for their work over recent months. Source: Sagunto City Council.
