Sagunto taxi drivers still waiting for shade three months after council vote
The PP (People's Party) says the local government has still not acted on a plenary agreement to install shade canopies and electric chargers at taxi ranks, now well into summer.
Taxi drivers in Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) are working through the summer heat with no shade, despite a plenary vote nearly three months ago that approved shade structures and electric charging points at local taxi ranks. The initiative was proposed by PP and passed by the full city council, yet no work has started and no timetable has been communicated to the sector. PP spokesperson Ximo Catalán said drivers ask daily whether the promised canopies are coming. Sagunto train station is a busy rail hub: opened in 1862 and managed by Adif (Spanish Rail Infrastructure Manager), it is served today by Cercanías commuter lines C-5 and C-6, regional trains and high-speed AVE services, generating a steady passenger flow that taxi drivers handle in full sun during the hottest months of the year. PP is calling on the council to begin work immediately or at least introduce temporary shade solutions while permanent structures are planned, and to keep drivers informed. According to elperiodicodeaqui.com, the local government has not publicly responded to the complaints.
