Ministry puts €10.1m contract out to tender for A-7 repairs near Sagunto
Spain's Ministry of Transport has put out to tender a €10.1 million contract to repair the A-7 motorway surface between kilometre markers 306.7 and 314, on the stretch linking Sagunto and Museros.
Spain's Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has put out to tender the repair of the road surface on the A-7 motorway between kilometre markers 306.7 and 314, a stretch of just over seven kilometres connecting Sagunto with the neighbouring town of Museros. The budget is €10.1 million, including tax, and the tender notice will be published shortly in Spain's official state gazette (BOE).
The work will mainly involve milling away up to 9cm of the existing road surface and replacing it with two new layers, 8cm and 3cm thick, which will leave the surface 2cm higher than it is now. In spots where damage runs deeper, milling will go down as far as 6cm before repaving, and the asphalt mix used will vary depending on the condition of each section. A reinforcing layer will also be added to stop existing cracks from spreading into the new surface.
The project also includes replacing the expansion joints on the viaduct deck near kilometre marker 306.7, between Sagunto and Puçol, and repainting all the road markings on the stretch. The Ministry frames this work as part of its Special Plan to improve road surfaces across Spain's state highway network, a nationwide programme worth €1.629 billion — one of the largest road maintenance schemes in recent years.
Sagunto's mayor, Darío Moreno, welcomed the announcement, calling it "good news for Sagunto" and noting that the A-7 is the main road connecting the city to the greater Valencia metropolitan area, used daily by thousands of residents and hauliers. Moreno framed the repair work not only as a road-safety improvement but as a long-term investment in the city's economic connectivity, at a time when Sagunto is attracting large-scale industrial investment.
This announcement adds to other Ministry projects already under way in the north of Valencia province to renew different stretches of the A-7, all part of the same special road-surface plan. The exact start date for work on the Sagunto-Museros stretch will be known once the tender process is complete.
