Sagunto's New Wastewater Plant Progresses with €50.77 Million EU-Backed Budget
Construction of the new EDAR wastewater treatment plant at Parc Sagunt II is on track, funded jointly by the EU and the Valencian regional government at a total cost of €50.77 million over 25 months.
Five municipalities in the Camp de Morvedre district — Estivella, Albalat dels Tarongers, Gilet, Petrés and Sagunto — are getting a new wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) at Parc Sagunt II. Construction is progressing on schedule, with a total budget of €50.77 million and a 25-month timeline. The facility will process up to 30,000 cubic metres of wastewater daily and will include tertiary treatment, enabling reclaimed water to be reused in local industry and agriculture. Funding comes from EPSAR (the Valencian Community's public sanitation body) and the EU's FEDER Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027 programme, with no direct cost to the municipality. The tertiary standard is particularly relevant given that the Marjal dels Moros wetlands — a Natura 2000 protected area (ZEPA) — lie immediately adjacent to Parc Sagunt II. The contractor is the Ferrovial-Ocide-Cadagua joint venture. Once operational, the existing plant will be repurposed as a pumping station. Valencian Government vice-president Vicente Martínez Mus and Sagunto's deputy mayor María José Carrera visited the site on Monday, according to Sagunto City Council.
