The chosen date, 9 September, is no coincidence: it matches World Agriculture Day, an international observance created to raise awareness of the challenges facing farming in the face of climate change.
The new annual date will be commemorative, educational and participatory in nature. The council will organise or support activities each year to promote the local farming sector, and has tasked the Agriculture Department (Concejalía de Agricultura) with designing the yearly programme, within the department's budget, as well as coordinating and running the related initiatives.
The declaration's stated aims include recognising the contribution of the municipal farming sector to the economy, society and the environment, and raising public awareness of agriculture in Sagunto.
