Sagunto Leads European Bid to Regenerate Industrial and Coastal Spaces
Sagunto City Council heads the REWEAVE project as lead partner in an application to the EU's URBACT Action Networks programme, together with six cities from Denmark, Italy, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Greece and Serbia.
Sagunto is stepping forward as urban transformation leader through the REWEAVE candidacy, a bid focused on resilient and inclusive regeneration of its industrial, port and coastal areas, submitted to the European Union's URBACT Action Networks call. The project brings together exactly seven cities, one from each participating country, meeting the programme's strict eligibility rules. URBACT Action Networks carry a maximum budget of one million euros per network, with 65% FEDER co-financing available for developed regions such as the Valencian Community.
If selected, the network would begin work in November 2026 and run through April 2029. A core goal is to reconnect the recently renewed Gerencia building and Alameda del Consejo district with the Pantalán waterfront, applying sustainable and inclusive planning principles with active participation of local associations and residents. The candidacy is currently under technical evaluation by URBACT's governing bodies. According to Sagunto City Council.
