Sagunto city council approves motion backing LGTBIQ+ rights for Pride 2026
Sagunto City Council approved a motion on 4 June reaffirming its commitment to LGTBIQ+ rights ahead of International Pride Day 2026 on 28 June.
At its ordinary plenary session on 4 June, Sagunto City Council approved a motion expressing institutional support for the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community on the occasion of International Pride Day 2026. The vote comes at a time of significant legal progress at the national level: Spain's Gender Identity Act (Ley 4/2023, Trans Act), in force since 2 March 2023, allows legal gender change from the age of 16 without a medical report and bans conversion therapy with fines ranging from €10,000 to €150,000. On the international stage, Spain topped the ILGA-Europe Rainbow Map 2026 for the first time, reaching 89% in LGTBI+ rights protection — overtaking Malta, which had held the top position for a decade.
