Compromís takes Sagunto port agreement deadlock to Spanish parliament
The Valencianist coalition Compromís has asked the Spanish Congress of Deputies to summon the president of Valencia Port Authority over alleged non-compliance with the 2019 agreement with Sagunto City Council.
Compromís MP Àgueda Micó has formally requested that APV (Valencia Port Authority) president Mar Chao appear before parliament to account for progress on commitments made to Sagunto — particularly the opening of the north dock to the public. Local spokesperson Maria Josep Picó says the APV has gone six months without responding to the council's objections to a new port-use zoning plan (DEUP) that the party claims cuts 100,000 m² from land earmarked for city-port integration. The APV oversees the three nationally-managed ports in the Valencian Community — Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia — and reports to the Ministry of Transport. Compromís is also demanding documents on a three-year extension granted to the company PORLESA on land meant to become a public marina, and criticises Mayor Darío Moreno for negotiating a new agreement before auditing compliance with the existing one.
