Sagunto wrestling club wins 9 medals at national championships held in the city
Club de Lluita Camp de Morvedre (Sagunto's local wrestling club) earned 1 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals at the Spanish Senior Championships in Olympic Wrestling, Beach Wrestling and Sambo, hosted in Sagunto this week.
Sagunto's Club de Lluita Camp de Morvedre delivered a strong performance at the national senior championships in Olympic wrestling, beach wrestling and sambo, held in the city. The club returned home with 9 medals and also finished as national runners-up in the Olympic wrestling team event, third in beach wrestling and fourth in sambo by teams.
The championships were organised by FELODA (the Spanish Wrestling and Associated Disciplines Federation) and serve as qualification rounds for the Mediterranean Games and the World Championship. Around 400 athletes from across Spain took part.
The result carries added symbolic weight: in 2026 Club de Lluita Camp de Morvedre marks 75 years of uninterrupted activity, and hosting a national event while also topping the medal table confirms its standing as one of the top wrestling clubs in the Valencian Community. Beach wrestling has been a recognised discipline by United World Wrestling (UWW) since 2004; sambo traces its origins to the Soviet Union in the 1920s, with its international federation (FIAS) founded in 1985.
