BM Morvedre closes the season away in Lanzarote against Zonzamas
Club Balonmano Morvedre (Sagunto's women's handball team) travels to Lanzarote this Saturday for the final league match of the season against Zonzamas, a side fighting to avoid relegation from the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola (top division of Spanish women's handball).
The Sagunto side wraps up its campaign on the road in the Canary Islands, facing Zonzamas on their home court. Head coach Cris Cabeza has said the aim is to put in a much better performance than the previous weekend and compete for all sixty minutes, even though Morvedre's top-flight status for next season is already secured.
The differing stakes add an extra edge to the game: Morvedre play with nothing on the line in the standings, while Zonzamas are in a relegation battle. Founded in 1985 in San Bartolomé, Lanzarote, Zonzamas are back in the top division for the second time in their history — they were promoted in 2025-26 after winning the División de Honor Oro, having previously been relegated after their debut season in 2020-21.
Club Balonmano Morvedre, formally founded on 23 June 2012 in Sagunto and based at the Pabellón René Marigil (capacity: 800), closes a season marked by growth and team cohesion in the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola, Spain's top women's handball competition. Source: BM Morvedre on Facebook.
