Camp de Morvedre Trobades d'Escoles en Valencià postponed amid teacher strike

The Trobades d'Escoles en Valencià gathering planned for this weekend in Sagunto has been postponed in solidarity with the teachers' indefinite strike and the 23 May demonstration in Valencia for public and Valencian-language education.

The Trobades d'Escoles en Valencià del Camp de Morvedre — an annual festive gathering that promotes Valencian-language education — have been postponed from their planned Sagunto dates of 23–24 May. The organisers announced the decision in solidarity with the ongoing teachers' indefinite strike and the major demonstration called in Valencia for Saturday 23 May in defence of free, inclusive, quality public schooling taught in Valencian. Sagunto's Councillor for Education, Raúl Palmero, backed the move, noting that the Trobades embody the very same values of coexistence, culture and linguistic commitment that underpin the protest. Valencian holds co-official status alongside Spanish in the Valencian Community, recognised by the 2006 Statute of Autonomy; however, 2021 data show that only 23.1% of people in Valencian-speaking areas use it as their main home language, a figure that underscores the advocacy significance of events like the Trobades. Sagunto's own Municipal School Council had already voted unanimously to support the same indefinite teachers' strike. According to Sagunto City Council and elperiodic.com, a new date for the event will be announced in due course.
