Two free hairdressing and manicure courses for people in vulnerable situations start in November in Sagunto, run by Open Space and the City Council. The first begins on 3 November.

The hairdressing course opens on 3 and 4 November under the municipal Education department. The manicure course, coordinated by Social Services, is also planned for November, although the City Council has not yet announced the start day. Both are free, taught by professionals from the sector, and come through Open Space, a training organisation working with the council.

The courses are meant for people in socially vulnerable situations who need another route into training to reach the job market. The councillor for Social Services, Nuria Carbó, said the programme is designed above all for women who never had the chance to train, and called it wonderful to be able to offer them this opportunity.

The project took about nine months to prepare, a period in which the features of the courses and the profiles of the students were defined. It also coincides with the training centre's preparation to be approved for professional certificates in hairdressing and aesthetics, which would make it easier for those who finish these courses to keep training.

The councillor for Education, Raúl Palmero, thanked Open Space for offering both courses free of charge and highlighted the joint work of Education and Social Services. Carbó, for her part, thanked all the professionals who made the launch possible.

Open Space is not new to the municipality. According to asecam.com in January 2026, the organisation opened a larger site in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district), at 25 Elio Antonio de Nebrija street, to widen its training offer and advise and support job seekers, and it presents itself as a comarcal reference in training and professional inclusion. In May 2026 the same organisation launched free subsidised courses for the hospitality sector, from short programmes of 12 hours up to 45 hours, in person and online, aimed at employees and self-employed people, with sign-up at oscomarcal.com. The hairdressing and manicure courses, by contrast, target a different audience: people in socially vulnerable situations.

The practical details remain open. The council's statement does not give the number of places, teaching hours, venue or enrolment deadline, and it fixes only one concrete date: 3 and 4 November for hairdressing. Each course depends on a different department, Education for hairdressing and Social Services for manicure, so each will be the one to clarify the conditions for access.
