Sagunto cultural agenda, 28 to 31 October 2026: Divinas palabras and Doña Manteca
Sagunto offers books, Valle-Inclán theatre and a Doña Manteca concert from 28 to 31 October, with tickets at 9 and 7 euros.
Between Wednesday 28 and Saturday 31 October 2026, Sagunto has three cultural events: a book presentation, a play and a concert. The two ticketed shows cost 9 and 7 euros, so anyone going to both will spend 16 euros per person. The quarterly programme of the Culture Department of Sagunto City Council spreads them across the Antiguo Sanatorio Civic Centre, the Casa Municipal de Cultura (municipal arts house) and the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre. The council also announces the second edition of the literary cycle Diàleg de Llibres, although its statement gives no dates or venues for the sessions.
On Wednesday 28, at 19:00, the Antiguo Sanatorio Civic Centre hosts two book presentations organised by the Libraries Department. Nieves Bausili presents Sueños y relatos al lado del CPAP, and Javier Arnau presents El caminante, la leyenda del bardo inmortal.
On Friday 30, at 20:30, Atalaya Teatro (a theatre company) brings the tragicomedy Divinas palabras to the Casa Municipal de Cultura. The performance lasts 85 minutes and a ticket costs 9 euros through the Servientradas website (a ticketing platform).
Valle-Inclán published the play in 1919 with the subtitle Tragicomedia de aldea (village tragicomedy). The story centres on the family of a rural sacristan, and the author uses that setting to expose greed, lust and death with cruelty and in a grotesque key. The council describes it as the Valle-Inclán text most often staged outside Spain and argues that this human misery can be applied to our nearest reality.
It premiered on 16 November 1933 at the Teatro Español in Madrid, directed by Cipriano Rivas Cherif, with Margarita Xirgu and Enrique Borrás in the cast. It later moved into other formats: an opera with a libretto by Francisco Nieva and music by Antón García Abril, premiered at the Teatro Real in Madrid in 1997, and two film adaptations, a Mexican one from 1977 and a Spanish one from 1987, directed by José Luis García Sánchez.
Atalaya, Centro Internacional de Investigación Teatral (International Centre for Theatre Research), received the Premio Nacional de Teatro (Spain's national theatre prize) in 2008 and presented its first proposal on this play in 1998. The company's current version has direction, adaptation and dramaturgy by Ricardo Iniesta and takes a contemporary tone.
On Saturday 31 October, from 20:00, the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre hosts Música latina, a one-hour concert by Doña Manteca. Tickets cost 7 euros and are also sold through Servientradas. The Valencian trio consists of Paula Almendros, Elena Almendros and Empar Mora, who reinterpret the music of yesterday and today through a sound filter of their own. Live, they swap instruments and roles, but all three voices are always present, forming a choir with varied instruments and giving new life to hits from every era. Elvis Crespo, Jorge Drexler, Karol G and Nathy Peluso have publicly praised the group.
The closing calendar is short: El valor de lo cotidiano, an exhibition by the Ateneo del Puerto (a local cultural association), ends on 30 October at the Casa Municipal de Cultura, the same day as the Atalaya performance, and Pinturas exóticas para corazones noctámbulos, by Darío Oltra, ends on the 31st at the Mario Monreal centre, the day of the concert. Anyone holding a ticket for those events can use the trip to see the exhibition, although the council's statement does not give visiting hours.
