Sagunto extraordinary council session, 27 October: general municipal policy debate
Sagunto holds its extraordinary council session on the general policy debate on Tuesday 27 October at 17:00, streamed live on the council's YouTube channel and social media.
The Sagunto Municipal Corporation (the city council) meets on Tuesday 27 October 2026, starting at 17:00, in the council chamber at the Town Hall. It is an extraordinary session devoted to the general municipal policy debate, in which the mayor reviews the state of the city and the political groups respond.
The format is set by Article 157 of the Municipal Organic Regulation. The mayor opens, with a maximum of 30 minutes to speak about the general situation of Sagunto and the main lines of the government's work. Each group spokesperson then takes the floor, with a cap of 20 minutes per group, to debate that speech.
After that first round comes the reply: the mayor has another 30 minutes and the spokespeople answer with a maximum of 15 minutes each. The mayor closes the debate with up to 30 more minutes, and the session ends with that turn.
Adding up the turns, the mayor can speak for up to 90 minutes in total and each spokesperson for up to 35 minutes across two interventions. How long the afternoon actually runs will therefore depend on how many groups speak and how much of their time they use.
Anyone who cannot attend in the chamber can follow the session from home. The council's Communication Office will broadcast it live on the official YouTube channel of the Sagunto council and on the social networks it manages: Facebook, Instagram and X.
The previous debate followed the same timetable. According to elperiodic.com in October 2025, it took place on Wednesday 22 October 2025 at 17:00, as an extraordinary session with a single agenda item, and it was also streamed on YouTube. This year the date falls on a Tuesday.
The session comes a few weeks after the council approved, on 8 October 2026, the municipal budget for 2027, which comes to 108.5 million euros and passed with the votes of the PSOE and EU-Unides Podem. Two of its lines give a sense of the scale of spending: Security will receive 11,519,818 euros, 21% more than in 2026, and the cleaning and urban hygiene service (SAG) will get 23.5 million euros, 18% more than this year. These are the most recent budget figures the Corporation has voted on before the debate.
The notice does not detail the specific issues the mayor will address in his opening speech, so the topics of the afternoon will only become clear once he starts speaking.
